The Saskatchewan Party has named its candidate for the Saskatoon Meewasin byelection.
Kim Groff will be going up against the NDP’s Nathaniel Teed in the race. Groff, a small business owner and businessman working in sales, human resources and finance, has lived in Saskatoon for the past 35 years, his party said in a statement. This won’t be his first campaign, as Groff ran in the Saskatoon Centre seat in the 2020 election, where he finished second behind the NDP’s Betty Nippi-Albright.
“I want to extend my thanks to the Saskatoon Meewasin membership for their strong support,” Groff said in a news release. “I’m working hard to ensure that the Saskatchewan Party wins this byelection.”
The Saskatoon seat is vacant after the resignation of former Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili, who announced his departure as leader and MLA following his party’s byelection loss in the Athabasca riding.
The date for the byelection has not yet been announced, but must be held by January 1, 2023.
