As summer continues, with many still unsure about international travel or taking trips in the face of high gas prices, some are taking in local attractions instead.
The Prairie Lily is one of those businesses seeing an increase in demand.
The river boat cruise has already sold out of all of its dinner, brunch and tasting events for the entire summer, and the sightseeing tour numbers are higher than usual.
Co-owner Joan Steckhan said the majority of their customers come from Saskatoon, but others are coming from around the province and beyond.
“We are seeing certainly more Canadians coming this year, and a new increase in international travelers. From Europe, Australia, we’ve seen a few more folks from there, but … typically this is very much a local attraction,” Steckhan said.
She said they have noticed more group bookings than usual, which means more people may be looking to enjoy local tourism.
Steckhan said the cruise will be closing for the season Sept. 11, which is earlier than in years past, because Transport Canada is conducting its five-year hull inspection.
