Environment Canada has confirmed a waterspout was spotted over Lake Athabasca on Monday.
In a statement Tuesday, the weather service said the waterspout was observed at about 5:30 p.m., over the lake in northern Saskatchewan. Environment Canada received a report and a video as confirmation.
Environment Canada said it hadn’t received any reports of damage. The waterspout was given a preliminary rating of EF0.
“This was considered a waterspout that was generated by weak rotation under weak thunderstorms,” the statement said.
“Waterspouts do not usually cause significant damage, but can still be dangerous to marine traffic. If they move onto shore, they can topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris a short distance.”
Environment Canada meteorologists are asking for pictures of damage as well as information about the waterspout. People can call 1-800-239-0484, email storm@ec.gc.ca, or tweet to #skstorm.
