More details are emerging about the murder-suicide in Langham on Friday.
Friends and locals in the community have identified the 38-year-old victim as Joshua Peters.
Peters was shot and killed by 46-year-old Justin Heimbecker in Langham, friends and neighbours told 650 CKOM. Heimbecker’s remains were found in a home in Langham after a fire, RCMP said, and the incident was declared a murder-sucide on Monday.
The RCMP said Heimbecker and Peters were known to each other, but were not related.
According to Peters’ obituary, he died July 8. Peters loved his family and being outside, the obituary read, and was a gifted musician.
“He loved being a father and was a fierce advocate and cheerleader for his children, while also being a wonderfully fun parent,” the obituary shared by Dalmeny Funeral Home reads.
Peters was also a member of the band Elephant Seal.
In a post shared on Facebook, the band members shared their heartbreak over losing their friend and fellow musician.
“On July 8th, the life of our beloved Josh was suddenly taken. We are shocked. Our hearts are shattered. Our lives feel empty without him,” the post read.
“To us he was a cherished brother and friend,” the post reads. “No one made us feel like rockstars like he did.”
A celebration of life for Peters is scheduled for Friday in Saskatoon.
