The Rogers network outage has reached Regina’s Mosaic Stadium.
In a media release early Friday afternoon, Regina Exhibition Association Limited said cash and credit cards were the only methods of payment being accepted on the REAL campus. Interac debit services across Canada were affected by the outage.
That means cash and credit are expected to be the only payment options available at concession stands during Friday’s CFL game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and visiting Ottawa Redblacks.
“Rider Nation is being asked to bring cash or credit cards to tonight’s game,” the REAL release said. “ATM services are also being impacted and may not be available on site.”
REAL mentioned some fans with Rogers phones trying to pull up their electronic tickets could be impacted by the outage.
While the association couldn’t speak for the Riders, it suggested people go to the ticket office if they’re having problems accessing their tickets.
REAL said it would try to provide an update before the game begins at 7:30 p.m., if one was required.
Across the Queen City, retail outlets weren’t able to take debit as payment. A number of stores had handwritten notes at their tills saying only cash and credit cards would be accepted.
Brad DeLorey with Federated Co-op said some of the company’s gas stations and grocery stores were feeling the impact of the outage.
“Any Co-op that uses Rogers across Western Canada would be impacted. Right here locally in Regina, debit transactions are down,” he explained. “We’re still accepting cash and credit cards. We’re still awaiting an update from Rogers.”
DeLorey added ATM machines at stores impacted also were not working. He recommended those trying to fill up or get groceries come prepared beforehand.
“I think the customers are understanding,” he said. “When you’re coming in to get service, you should be prepared to pay by cash or credit card.”
