Beginning July 4, people no longer need to cover their face when visiting the University of Saskatchewan’s campus.
The university is hitting pause on the mask protocol for summer.
“Masks will not be mandatory indoors at that time, but they will still be highly recommended,” said a note posted on the university’s website.
The university’s Pandemic Response and Recovery Team will monitor the COVID-19 situation over the next few months and determine if the policy needs to be brought back for the fall semester, or sooner.
The campus said it will rely on key indicators such as COVID-19 case numbers, variant emergence, wastewater viral load and public health data.
The University of Regina moved to optional mask-wearing on June 1, but said masks “will be encouraged and welcomed in all areas of our campuses.”
“As we have done since the beginning of the pandemic, the University will monitor and assess potential risks, and will adjust our practices as needed moving forward,” the U of R wrote in a statement.
