More details are being released about the emergency alert issued Sunday near La Ronge.
The La Ronge RCMP says shots fired at police prompted the alert.
Police say at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, two officers were conducting patrols in the community when a black car drove past their vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Officers followed the vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle kept driving and turned into a driveway at a house.
The male driver of the vehicle fled the area and was followed on foot by an RCMP officer.
The second officer was outside the police truck when a second man got out of the car with a gun and fired it at the officer.
In response, the RCMP officer returned fire. One of the suspect’s bullets hit the RCMP vehicle’s windshield and a second bullet hit the radiator.
The two officers moved to a safe location and called for backup.
Once backup arrived, officers noticed a gathering was happening at the residence where the black car was parked.
A number of people left the house and were arrested, including a man and a woman whom investigators determined had been in the black car; they went inside the house after the guns were discharged. Another woman from the car remains unaccounted for.
The nature of the incident led to the emergency alert being issued.
The RCMP Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was called in and, at 4:30 p.m., arrested two more men and a woman who were inside the house.
In total, police arrested 17 people. So far, 15 people have been released without charges and were determined not to be involved.
The investigation remains ongoing and police are still looking for three individuals — the man who fled the area on foot, the man who fired the gun and a female occupant of the car — who have not been located.
The first suspect is described as a male with short dark hair with sides shaved, wearing dark pants and a dark shirt with gold patterns down the sleeves and dark runners. He has not been located and police continue to look for him.
The police didn’t provide descriptions of the man who fired the gun or the female occupant of the car.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
