The price at the pump is nearing $2 per litre in Saskatchewan’s biggest cities.
According to price tracking website GasBuddy, some stations in Saskatoon and Regina increased their price for regular fuel to $1.95.9 per litre on Tuesday. Fuel price analysis website Gas Wizard predicted that will be the going rate in both cities by Wednesday.
Those who drive diesel vehicles can expect to see prices of $1.99.9 per litre this week in both cities, according to Gas Wizard.
The Saskatchewan NDP has pushed for relief measures from the provincial government to help make life easier for drivers feeling the pinch at the pumps.
Alberta has paused the collection of the provincial tax on gas and diesel sales, and while Premier Scott Moe said the Saskatchewan government is looking at measures to help people manage the increasing cost of living, he stopped short of committing to cutting the fuel tax.
According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, fuel thefts have spiked in recent months along with prices. The RCMP reviewed fuel thefts from January to April and found 178 reported incidents in the province, a jump of 76 per cent over the same period in 2021.
Things could be worse, however. According to Gas Wizard, drivers in Vancouver can expect to pay $2.24.9 per litre of regular fuel on Wednesday, the highest price in Canada.
