For the second time in a little more than a week, a scrap between Saskatoon police officers and a suspect ended up with all three falling down stairs.
This time, a 21-year-old is facing two charges of assaulting a police officer after an incident Monday morning.
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, officers responded at about 7:15 a.m., to a building in the 200 block of Kingsmere Boulevard for a call of a man sleeping in a stairwell. The caller told police it wasn’t clear if the man was breathing.
When officers arrived, they found a man who appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant.
“When police attempted to wake him, he immediately became combative and began to fight, as the two officers attempted to take him into custody,” the police release said.
“At one point, the two officers and the 21-year-old man ended up falling down the stairs. The suspect continued to fight until finally being subdued and taken into custody by four officers.”
Two officers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect also was taken to hospital by paramedics before being released into police custody.
The other incident occurred May 14, when officers fought with a suspect in an apartment building in the 500 block of 20th Street West.
