Snowy, rainy and windy conditions aren’t how most people expected to kick off their May long weekend.
While the weather has been a downer for most of this past week, Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says the weather should improve over the next 24 hours.
“For the most part, the system is pretty much done with, but there is quite a bit of cold air in behind, so that’s going to be with us for a couple of days,” Lang said Friday.
“Saturday should see a bit more in the way of sun, but not too much recovery in temperature unfortunately.”
While the sun will return to the major centres of Saskatoon and Regina on Saturday, Lang mentioned the evenings will still be chilly.
“The temperatures at night are going to still be quite cold,” noted Lang, “so (it’s) not quite time to put out those tomato plants or bedding plants quite yet. Maybe (it’ll be better) towards the end of next week.”
The wind has been gusting across the province over the past day, but Lang suggests it will die down as we head into Saturday.
“It should start to slowly simmer down, but it’s still going to be gusty through the night (Friday) night,” she said. “By (Saturday) afternoon or evening, we should see the end of it and (we’re) not expecting too much in the way of winds after that.”
The average temperature around this time of year for Saskatoon and Regina is around 20 C.
Temperatures are expected to get close to more normal as the long weekend comes to an end.
“Towards Sunday and Monday, it looks like a good improvement. It’s still not up to seasonal temperature. We’re running below average, but should see a bit more sunshine,” Lang explained.
Lang suggests if you’re out in the sun towards the end of the week, it is important to wear sunscreen to prevent any burns.
