Some people who live in the area of Highway 15 are getting a big thank you from the RCMP for helping get about a kilogram of crystal meth out of circulation.
In a media release Wednesday, the Punnichy RCMP said officers responded Sunday at about noon to a call of a suspicious vehicle on a property on Highway 15 near Raymore.
The vehicle drove off, but officers found it in Quinton and tried to pull it over. The vehicle didn’t stop until a second police vehicle blocked its path.
The driver was arrested, but a passenger got out and ran. He was found and arrested about two hours later at a business in Raymore after a member of the public called in a tip to police.
The passenger dropped a bag while he was running from police, but officers found it and seized the crystal meth inside. They also found a backpack that had been left at the property on Highway 15.
In addition to the crystal meth, officers also seized illegal cigarettes, knives, batons, approximately 96 OxyContin pills and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
A 44-year-old man from Whitecourt, Alta., and a 47-year-old man from Spruce Grove, Alta., are facing a variety of charges. They’re to appear in court in Punnichy on May 10.
“We thank the members of the public that reported the suspicious vehicle, as well as the whereabouts of one of the males we arrested,” Cpl. Jason Collen of the Punnichy RCMP said in the release. “Your actions helped us remove more than a kilogram of illicit drugs from the streets.
“This is an excellent example of the public and police working together to keep our community safe.”
