8:30 – Ukrainians displaced by the conflict in their homeland have begun to arrive in Saskatchewan, and are getting settled in and beginning to look for work. Oksana Beglarashvili, an economics professor from Kyiv, arrived in Saskatoon April 17 along with her husband and teenage son, via Poland and Germany. Oksana says there’s a lot to do as she works to get her family settled, and next week she’ll be starting the job hunt. She joins Gormley to share her story, and why Saskatchewan is an appealing destination for those leaving Ukraine.

10:00 – The Liberal government in Ottawa is planning to introduce a bill aiming to give the state powers to suppress online content it deems harmful, but the bill has been slammed by companies like Microsoft, Twitter, who likened the Canadian plan to the censorious regimes of China and North Korea. The Ministry of Canadian Heritage refused to release the submissions criticizing the bill, though they were obtained by media through Access to Information requests. Law Professor and Internet Law Expert Michael Geist joins Gormley to tell us why he’s still got serious concerns about the Trudeau government’s plans to regulate online behavior.

12:00 – Back on March 14 we met Michelle McKeaveney, co-founder of River Valley Resilience Retreat, a non-profit aiming to open a permanent space for public safety personnel, veterans, and their families to connect with peers while developing skills to deal with post-traumatic stress. Since then, the project has found a property to use as a base for its day camps for first responders and firefighters, an acreage and home outside Prince Albert. The RM of Prince Albert gave the final go ahead on the permit that will allow the project to operate, and they expect to begin helping those suffering from PTSD and operational stress injuries within a month. McKeaveney joins John to share the update.
