A stay of proceedings has been issued in the case of a Saskatoon police officer who was charged with assault in March.
According to court documents, the Crown stayed the charge because it’s “unwilling now to prosecute further Robert Webb.”
Webb, a constable with the Saskatoon Police Service, was charged after a complaint was lodged with the RCMP on March 11.
The court documents said the incident happened March 9 near Warman. Webb was off duty at the time.
In a media release issued after Webb was charged last month, the Saskatoon Police Service said the officer had been suspended with pay and noted an internal investigation would begin after the conclusion of the court case against him.
It’s unknown at this time what the stay of proceedings means for the suspension or the investigation.
