A controlled burn near Saskatoon on Monday turned into an out-of-control grass fire that had to be dealt with by the Saskatoon Fire Department.
In a media release, the fire department said it got a call at 1 p.m. about a controlled burn that had got out of control. The fire was 10 miles south of Saskatoon on Highway 219 at the entrance to the Beaver Creek Conservation Area.
According to the release, the football field-sized fire was moving toward structures. Fire crews managed to push the flames away from the buildings and brought the fire under control at 1:30 p.m.
