The Saskatoon Police Service has identified a suspect in Saturday’s incident that prompted an officer to fire their gun.
Rolfe Rueben Herman, 32, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault and forcible confinement arising from another event.
The incident Saturday happened just after 4 p.m., when members of the Guns and Gangs Unit saw a man wanted on warrants get into a cab in the 3200 block of 33rd Street.
After officers stopped the cab, the suspect got out of the backseat and pointed a gun in the direction of police officers. That prompted one of the officers to fire their gun.
Police didn’t say how many shots were fired.
The suspect ran into a mall in the 300 block of Confederation Drive, leading to a police operation in the neighbourhood. The man wasn’t located.
Police said Tuesday that investigators determined Herman was the suspect.
On Monday at about 10:30 p.m., officers tried to stop a vehicle in the area of Eighth Street East and Grosvenor Avenue because they thought Herman was inside.
The driver took off, colliding with a post at St. Henry Avenue and Ruth Street East. The driver ran off and police couldn’t find him.
Herman is described as 6-foot-1 and about 175 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He has a full sleeve tattoo on his left arm, a tattoo of skulls on his left forearm, the name “Ryder” on the left side of his neck and a tattoo of faces on his right calf.
Police say he may have a gun, so anyone who sees him is urged to avoid him.
Anyone with information on Herman’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, the police non-emergency line at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
