Competing in her first Paralympics, Saskatchewan’s Lisa DeJong made history in Beijing on Monday.
DeJong, who hails from Biggar, claimed the country’s first-ever para snowboard medal by winning the silver in the women’s snowboard cross.
Moments later, Tyler Turner captured the gold medal in the men’s event to highlight a six-medal day for Team Canada.
Cross-country Skiing
Natalie Wilkie also won gold. She took top spot in the women’s 15-kilometre cross-country race, while teammate Brittany Hudak from Prince Albert captured the bronze.
Canada’s other gold medal on the day came from Brian McKeever, who easily defended his title in the men’s 20-kilometre cross-country ski race.
It was the 18th career medal for McKeever, who is making his sixth Paralympic appearance.
Alpine Skiing
Alpine skier Alana Ramsay captured her second medal of the Paralympics, winning bronze in super combined.
Canada has 12 medals through three days of the Winter Games — four gold, two silver and six bronze.
