There’s some positive news for Saskatoon this week.
According to the latest wastewater surveillance information from the University of Saskatchewan, between Feb. 3 and Feb. 9, the COVID-19 viral load in the city decreased by 43.7 per cent.
It’s the first time in several weeks the wastewater testing results have shown a decrease.
That could mean COVID infections are decreasing in the coming days and weeks. Omicron remains the dominant variant of concern in the water, contributing 89 per cent of the overall viral load. The Delta variant has become undetectable, according to the U of S.
North Battleford’s wastewater showed a slight decrease as well, at 10.2 per cent, while testing in Prince Albert showed a 73.7 per cent increase in the amount of COVID in its wastewater.
Data is shared with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and is posted every Monday afternoon.
The work at the University of Saskatchewan is being done in partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the cities of Saskatoon, Prince Albert and North Battleford.
