The Pegasus Project for STARS just got another $1 million to help support its Ambulance Foundation.
Prince Albert’s Gord Broda won the custom-made 1968 Ford Shelby Mustang 427 at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday after pushing the auction price from $900,000 up to a $1 million.
“As the bidding on the car got bigger and bigger, we didn’t want to back away and (wanted to) make a significant contribution to STARS and certainly, at the same time, get to have a beautiful car as part of the process,” Broda said.
“STARS has become such an important part of our provincial community. They do such great work for our province. Being involved in the STARS project, we’ve got to learn how expensive these helicopters are, and they have a need to upgrade some of the fleet and get a couple of helicopters.
“We certainly understand that the requirements for the campaign were large, and my wife Barb and I really believe STARS is an organization we wanted to support in a big way.”
He purchased charity truck “Snakebit” for $450,000 in 2014 to raise money for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, and helped build and design this year’s Mustang as well.
Broda said he’ll park his brand new Pegasus Mustang right beside its new “older brother ‘Snakebit’ ” before getting to ride around with it in the summertime.
The Pegasus Project started in 2019 to raise money to renew the STARS helicopter fleet, in response to the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in April 2018.
Broncos crash survivor Kaleb Dahlgren donated all proceeds from his book “Crossroads” to the cause. The Pegasus Project has had some other notable ambassadors as well, including actor Kim Coates and NHL players Brayden and Luke Schenn, Jaden Schwartz and Tyler Bozak.
