The weather might be turning cold again, but Optimist Hill in Saskatoon’s Diefenbaker Park still has been the place to be so far throughout the winter.
Friends and family members were shredding the hill this past weekend, trying to get some physical exercise in a community setting.
Sam John is an employee at Optimist Hill and says it’s super exciting to see so many people turn out to enjoy themselves.
“I love to see more people out here, it’s always the more, the merrier,” John said with a smile.
“As far as the hill goes, we have a lot of lessons, and just seeing those same kids progress over the course of the season, they’re shredding with everyone else and it’s great to see that.”
John said it’s vital for people to get out of their homes during the winter and take part in some exercise for both physical and mental health.
“It’s definitely important to have facilities like this cause the winter alone, it will get to people.”
Optimist Hill offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing and John said the hill has developed into a strong community where everyone is welcomed, no matter what.
“If anyone comes here who hasn’t been here before, they’ll immediately see how close the community is for snowboarding (and) skiing.”
