When Kristin Pierce became a mom, she found herself very interested in hunting down children’s books with strong and empowering learning messages.
Pierce hoped those types of books would help her with teaching her children about their own wisdom, power and potential.
But the Warman mom didn’t find enough of what she was looking for. That prompted her to start writing herself.
After that, she decided to launch Inner Compass Books, a publishing company.
“We all have an inner compass, we all have an inner knowing and it’s really about trying to empower kids to get connected with that,” Pierce said.
Last year, two of her titles — “The Sweet Dreams Express” and “Hazel Mist, Hypnotist” — won 2020 Nautilus Book Awards.
Pierce is now the author of six children’s books. She enjoys writing and visiting schools to do virtual author presentations on topics like growth mindset, the inner self and the picture book process.
‘To learn how to navigate that and how to stay true to themselves, even through adversity and problems,” is something Pierce hopes children will learn from her work.
During the pandemic alone, Pierce penned two children’s books and a personal memoir. Her most recent book, “The Word Nerd,” is about a young boy who loves words, but his knowledge irritates another child in his class.
“He’s just fascinated with words. He loves learning and expanding his vocabulary,” Pierce explained to John Gormley Friday about the book’s main character.
Pierce’s books can be found at various bookstores in Saskatoon and Regina, at the Rosetown Co-op and online.
