10:30 – On Friday, CBS news raised eyebrows by referring to an incoming winter storm as a “Saskatchewan Screamer.” U of R instructor Mark Coté wrote a letter to the show, saying it’s just another “nonsense term” like polar vortex or atmospheric river that reporters use to make their weather coverage seem more exciting. Coté says as an atmospheric scientist he’s been banned from watching weather coverage on TV at home because he can’t stop ranting about their terminology. Coté joins John to tell us about these “nonsense terms” and why they’re so frustrating to actual scientists like him.
