Brent Loucks has been waking Saskatoon up for 40 years. Now he’s ready to start sleeping in.
“Forty years of 4 a.m. is long enough!” Loucks said as he explained his decision to step back from doing the morning show on 650 CKOM.
He’s not retiring, but he is stepping away from mornings. Loucks’ last morning show is set for Feb. 4.
Loucks was initially the morning news anchor on CKOM, and then became news director. In 1984, Loucks, together with Penney Murphy, became the very successful Brent and Penney Morning Show.
When asked about the best part, he was quick to respond with “The listeners!”
“Man, I hear from listeners, I see names, I have a great memory for names and I see people that won prizes in the 1980s and they’re still listening to me or I’ll get a text from someone who’ll say, ‘My parents listened to you all the time,’ or ‘We grew up on the school bus listening to you and Penney,’ ” Loucks said.
“It’s just that amazing connection with listeners and I credit the listeners, the people who have stayed with me through everything, through when we were Hot Hits to Classic Gold and Great Oldies, switching to News Talk and I just feel so blessed that people still want to be having me in their mornings. It’s really what it’s all about.”
Loucks will play an important role on 650 CKOM, continuing to do weekend shows, remote broadcasts for clients and guest-hosting other shows.
We’re excited to have Rock 102’s longtime morning show host Shack join the CKOM morning show from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., starting Feb. 7.
Shack has 30 years of radio experience in Saskatchewan, including 20 years on Rock 102. The station launched in November of 2001 with Shack in The Morning.
Fortunately, Rock listeners aren’t losing their buddy Shack. He’s happy to be hosting a special weekend show.
“Rock music runs through my veins,” said Shack, whose last morning show on Rock 102 is scheduled for Feb. 4.
Shack is a founding member of the Care & Share Saskatoon board, which raises funds for inner-city school children.
He also hosts Cooked! With Shack on Shaw TV to fulfil his love of everything manly and meat-oriented.
He can’t wait to let listeners in Saskatoon and the listening area meet interesting guests and business leaders and hear local stories.
The new CKOM morning show will remain hyper-local, focused on news and information to get you going, drawing on the resources of the award-winning CKOM news team.
The Rock 102 morning show will continue on with Sheri and Woody from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays.
