A 50-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with public mischief after an investigation determined he made a false statement accusing an RCMP officer of assault.
According to the Mounties, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Central District Management Team got a complaint in May about an alleged assault by an officer from the Rosetown detachment. The allegation was made after an impaired driving investigation in late April.
The RCMP conducted a statutory investigation, which determined the complainant had falsely accused the officer.
On Dec. 21, the man was charged with one count of public mischief. He’s to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Jan. 26.
The RCMP said it couldn’t provide details about the “allegation of inappropriate misconduct” by its officer because the matter is now before the courts.
