If Chris Jones’ career as a general manager with the Saskatchewan Roughriders is any indication, Edmonton had better be ready for a wild ride.
Jones started his time in Saskatchewan by getting fined six figures for his infamous pre-practice squad. He had a few dozen players who were constantly working out for him while staying in Regina to immediately jump on the practice roster or active roster if necessary.
There was the Greg Hardy day, when news broke the team was looking to bring in the man who was on the outs in the NFL for tossing his girlfriend around. And let’s not forget about cutting fan favourites unceremoniously when Weston Dressler and John Chick were shown the door.
Oh, and the Duron Carter move to defensive back was a good time to host a sports talk show.
While Jones ran the show in Saskatchewan, you can’t ignore the wins continuing to go in the right direction. He also kept the team in the news for a wide variety of reasons, both positive and negative.
I’m not expecting much different during his tenure in Edmonton, however long that may be.
