NFL coach Urban Meyer got fired last night to end one of the ugliest and shortest tenures for a football coach in NFL history.
Here’s the thing: The Jacksonville Jaguars should have never hired him.
Despite three national championships, Meyer left both Ohio State and Florida after ignoring domestic violence accusations toward an assistant coach with multiple player indiscretions that were ignored. Quite simply, if the Jags actually did research on Meyer, it wouldn’t have been hard to find the dirt on this guy.
Oh, then he tried to hire a strength and conditioning coach who was previously involved in a scandal that involved bullying and racism.
And of course, he started the season skipping a team flight home to party with his buddies in Ohio and ended up being photographed with an undergrad on his lap.
The last kick, so to speak, was former kicker Josh Lambo’s story about Meyer kicking him in a pregame stretch period in a vulgar exchange initiated by the head coach.
Urban Meyer is a real piece of work.
But if anybody will turn a blind eye for wins, it’s college football, so expect Meyer to be employed again in the NCAA very soon.
