Hundreds of families in Saskatoon will have a special Christmas thanks to the generosity of the local community.
This year’s 650 CKOM’s Adopt-A-Family campaign collected $92,800 in cash, food and gifts for 615 families in the city, including 1,550 children.
“Many of us take the holiday season for granted,” said Matt Gore with the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon, which adopted 50 families.
“There are many families who need help putting food on the table or purchasing gifts for their children. We see this need increase each year and the difficulties many local families experience.”
All donations are distributed to families in Saskatoon through The Salvation Army.
For 33 years, 650 CKOM’s Adopt-A-Family campaign has been encouraging businesses, families and individuals to adopt a family by raising money to purchase food and gifts for less fortunate Saskatoon families through The Salvation Army.
In 1988, the program collected $5,000. Since then, the demand for assistance at Christmas time has grown immensely and so has the program.
