Improper disposal of a cigarette sparked a fire that resulted in the partial evacuation of the Lighthouse in Saskatoon early Friday.
The Saskatoon Fire Department said it got a call at 3:19 a.m., about a blaze on the third floor of the facility’s supported housing tower.
The building’s sprinkler system helped contain the fire to one suite, but roughly 15 units were damaged by water leaking from above.
Damage was predominantly to ceiling tiles.
A spokesperson from the Lighthouse told 650 CKOM at least one person has been temporarily displaced. The Ministry of Social Services is working with the facility on whether other residents will require rehousing.
No one was hurt in the fire. Damage is estimated at $40,000.
