Saskatchewan has reported its lowest daily total of new COVID-19 cases since early August.
The Ministry of Health on Monday said there were 49 new infections, the fewest in a day since 24 cases were reported Aug. 3.
There also were 88 recoveries and one death announced, dropping the active case count to 858 — the lowest that number has been since it was 793 on Aug. 12.
A person in the 60-to-79 age group from the southwest region was the 926th Saskatchewan resident to die of COVID.
The number of hospitalizations rose by one, to 130. But intensive care cases increased by three, to 39.
There also are five Saskatchewan residents in Ontario ICUs.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were reported in the Regina (13), Saskatoon (eight), central-east (six), southeast (six), northwest (five), north-central (five), south-central (two), far northeast (one), northeast (one) and southwest (one) zones. The hometown of one case is still being determined.
The total comprised 45 people who weren’t vaccinated, three individuals who had been fully vaccinated, and one person who was partially vaccinated.
The unvaccinated group included 13 kids under the age of 12.
The seven-day average of new cases fell to 77, or 6.4 per 100,000 people. The average hasn’t been that low since Aug. 9, when it was 72.
To date, there have been 80,950 cases reported in the province along with 79,166 recoveries.
Vaccination update
There were 4,665 shots given in the province in the latest reporting period, including 4,169 first doses and 496 second shots.
So far, more than 1.73 million doses have been delivered in Saskatchewan, with 835,181 of them second shots.
Since last Wednesday, 16,696 children in the five-to-11 age range have received their first vaccination.
That number comprised shots in the Saskatoon (6,098), Regina (4,591), northwest (1,052), central-east (990), southeast (985), south-central (711), north-central (695), southwest (546), central-west (341), northeast (195), far northwest (179), far northeast (137) and far north-central (six) regions.
The hometowns of 170 kids who got their first shots were still being determined.
