A five-goal outburst in the second period powered the Saskatoon Blades to a 6-2 WHL win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday at SaskTel Centre.
Tristen Robins led the way, scoring his second career hat trick. That pushed his league-leading point total to 19 points in eight games to start the season.
Saskatoon has won five straight games and eight of its last nine games. The Blades haven’t lost in regulation since opening night on Oct. 1 and now have a 7-1-1 record.
Blades defenceman Rhett Rinehart opened the scoring a little more than five minutes into the game for a 1-0 Blades lead after 20 minutes.
Robins scored his first of the night on a cross-ice pass from Kyle Crnkovic 2:10 into the second period. Crnkovic added to the total with a shorthanded goal 1:29 later on an assist from Robins.
Brandon Lisowsky got in on the scoring with his sixth goal of the year when he cleaned up a big rebound from Warriors goaltender and Saskatoon native Brett Mirwald.
Robins added two more goals before the midway point of the period to give the Blades 6-0 lead.
Brayden Yager, another Saskatoon-born prospect, ended Nolan Maier’s shutout bid 12:44 into the third period before Lucas Brenton completed the scoring.
Maier stopped 27 shots for his sixth win of the season.
Crnkovic finished with one goal and three assists. Defencemen Pavel Bocharov and Aidan De La Gorgendiere had two assists each.
Saskatoon received an honourable mention in the CHL’s weekly top 10 rankings earlier Wednesday.
