The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to rescue a woman from the South Saskatchewan River Saturday morning.
Police were first on scene at an area nearby River Landing, between the Traffic Bridge and the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge, just before 8 a.m. A woman had walked into the chilly waters and refused to come back to shore.
Two rescue boats and a truck were sent to the scene.
Batallion chief Dwayne Jobson said it’s a scenario the water rescue team has trained for hundreds of times.
“We launched boats, and also sent a harnessed member into the water in a dry suit and he was able to coax the woman out,” Jobson said.
Aside from some temporary hypothermia, Jobson said the woman was not injured and was transferred to the care of paramedics to warm up.
“Things went really good. She was cooperative; she let our water rescue member come to her and assist her out of the water. Everything was fine,” Jobson said.
