He may be a heck of a lot richer, but ironically, one of the things he wants the most is priceless.
Dennis Clark will soon be able to spend more time with his family after more than nine years on the road working shifts.
That’s because Clark and his wife Rhonda won $2 million on the Western 649 jackpot draw from May 13.
“It’s hard on a person,” Clark said of the long hours.
The Clarks are from Hudson Bay, about 115 kilometres east of Tisdale. He said he’s missed his sons’ basketball games and other activities.
“It’s been nine-and-a-half years that he’s been gone and I’ve been home with our boys and it’s going to be a big change for us but it’s going to be a good change,” said Rhonda.
Clark bought the winning ticket at a Petro Canada station while working in Fort McMurray. He checked his numbers right after he called his wife on Mother’s Day.
Rhonda said she started shaking and Dennis joked he had to check over his ticket about 12 times before it truly sunk in.
“You never think it’s going to happen to you, ever,” said Rhonda.
Clark said the money will allow him to retire earlier. The couple said they’ll use part of the money to pay off their mortgage, buy a few vehicles and maybe get away for the winter. The rest will be put away in the bank, allowing the Clarks to “enjoy life” as they say.
