Best of luck to the Montreal Alouettes, who are hoping Trevor Harris will be to them what Zach Collaros was to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2019.
Call me a skeptic on this actually happening.
First, the Bombers were a Grey Cup championship team without a consistent QB before Collaros arrived. Remember, the Bombers were making Matt Nichols look great until he was injured and now Nichols can’t even hold the starting job in Ottawa.
Next, Harris may not even get the starting job. Matt Shiltz has won two straight and, yes, they’re against Ottawa but he has moved the ball and looked in command of the offence.
Harris also may not be mobile enough to survive behind many offensive lines. If the receivers aren’t coming open, it’s hard for Harris to buy extra time and throw on the run.
Now, here’s the reason Harris and Collaros could be similar. Harris knows he’s becoming the scapegoat for the Elks’ general manager and head coach and he has a lot to prove in Montreal.
For Collaros, winning a Grey Cup in 2019 shut up a lot of critics. Harris has a chance to do the same.
