Jamie Nye: CFL football is improving at the right time

OK, I think the answer on how long it will take for teams to get their stuff together in the CFL after over a year away is 10 weeks.

Of course with no pre-season, this is more like Week 7 or 8 and that is usually the time the teams really start to find their identity.

If you haven’t been paying attention or stopped because the entertainment value was lacking, we are definitely getting a lot of closer games and better quality. Penalties are down, offence is trending upwards and the standings are going to make an interesting finish with six weeks remaining in the regular season.

While Winnipeg is in full control of the West and Toronto is taking control in the East, there are six teams all within a win of each other and, with apologies to the Redblacks and Elks, their only role is spoiler in the final month of the season.

As head coach Craig Dickenson said, the Roughriders are watching the rest of the league improve at the right time as they stay status quo.

The Roughriders are in a decent, albeit precarious position.
