A “wintery mix of weather” is being forecasted in a special weather advisory just issued for Saskatoon, Regina and other southeast parts of the province.
A Colorado low is tracking through the eastern prairies later today and into Thursday, bringing “much needed moisture” into southwestern Saskatchewan, according to Environment Canada.
Up to 30 millimetres of rain is expected through Thursday night for areas close to the Manitoba border. Less rain is expected for areas more westward into the province.
As temperatures lower, some precipitation may turn to snow. The timing of this will be varied but Environment Canada predicts snowfall likely Wednesday night and Thursday morning while temperatures are at their lowest.
Five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected.
Conditions for travel are expected to deteriorate quickly due to the mix of snow, rain and near-freezing temperatures. Tree branches and power lines could be impacted by heavy, wet snow.
The snow is expected to melt through Thursday thanks to relatively mild ground temperatures and increasing temperatures, which are expected to reach the double digits by Friday.
