8:30 – The federal government’s sweeping vaccine requirement for all employees might not be quite so sweeping after all. According to Blacklock’s Reporter, as many as 212,000 federal employees (out of 300,540 in total) could be exempt from the requirements. Exempted workers include call centre operators, meat inspectors, judges, park wardens, postal workers, auditors, senate staff, military, and more. In addition, members of the public entering federal buildings will not need to provide vaccine proof. Tom Korski with Blacklock’s joins Gormley to share more.

11:15 – New Zealand has ended its efforts to wipe out COVID-19. Despite recording just 27 deaths up until August, the island nation is now getting hit hard by the Delta variant, and PM Jacinda Ardern says the plan is now shifting to suppression. But with less than half of the population fully vaccinated, it may be too late to avoid a major COVID wave. MP David Seymour is the leader of ACT New Zealand, and he says Ardern has “lost control” as the virus sweeps through the country, and he joins Gormley to tell us more about New Zealand’s COVID situation.
