12:00 – In his new book for Alliance Health, Dr. Mark Lemstra argues we need a different way of thinking about healthcare. Lemstra says income and education are major determinants of health, and makes a proposal to help ensure income and education are not a barrier to the health of children by expanding the Healthy Weights and Healthy Kids initiatives to new communities with additional services, and allow teachers to write referrals for their students to gain access – at no cost – to equipment and instruction in fitness, sport, music, arts, academics, and technology. Lemstra joins Gormley to discuss his proposals, and why he thinks we can do more to ensure all kids grow up healthy.
