It’s nice that recently the Labour Day Classic between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers is actually more than just a traditional prairie rivalry.
When you go back through the history of these games, it rarely came at a time when both teams were any good. When one was great, the other was not. And for plenty of years, they weren’t even in the same division.
But for the game in 2019 and now again in 2021, you have two of the top teams in the division going head to head and although it’s still early in this shortened season, these are big games to help decide who has home-field advantage when the games matter the most at the end of the season.
So here we go, the 3-1 Bombers and the 3-0 Riders. The last time they had records anywhere close to this was when they were both 3-1 back in the 1950s.
They’ve been the class of the CFL so far this year and we get back-to-back games to get an early indication of who should be considered the Grey Cup favourite.
