Tonight is the beginning of the final test for the Canadian men’s soccer team.
The Canadians take on Honduras in the first of 14 games over the coming months to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Then they take on the United States on Labour Day Monday and El Salvador on Sept. 8. Then it will be a month’s pause before their next round of games, but these original three in the next week will be an incredible indication of where this young and upcoming group is compared to with its CONCACAF rivals.
Entering the qualifying stage, Canada is ranked 70th in the world but should be moving up.
Of course our Canadian women found themselves finally hit the peak with an Olympic gold medal, but for our men’s side, just making the World Cup has been nearly impossible.
But for the first time in 30 years, it’s starting to feel like Canada is ready to burst through the door and start to be a threat in CONCACAF to compete for one of the four spots to advance.
