Jaris Swidrovich is stepping away from the impending federal election.
The NDP candidate for Saskatoon West announced his decision to pull out of the race to take care of a family health matter.
“I was honoured to be the NDP candidate in Saskatoon West and it feels bittersweet to step down. However, family comes first and my investments of time will be shifted toward my family health matter,” Swidrovich said in a news release.
“I look forward to helping elect Jagmeet Singh and the next NDP candidate in Saskatoon West and other New Democrats across the country.”
The media release went on to say Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the federal party, wishes Swidrovich the best of luck.
The nomination process for the NDP in Saskatoon West will reopen and a nomination date will be announced shortly.
Swidrovich secured the nomination roughly three months ago.
NDP candidate Sheri Benson represented the riding from 2015 to 2019 when she served as member of Parliament.
Conservative member of Parliament Brad Redekopp won the seat in 2019.
