There’s clearly no place like home for Rider Nation. On Saturday I was lined up outside the entry for the first day of training camp that was open to the first 500 to show up.
Around 200 people were there with their green on and it was clear from the get go that the team noticed. About half way through Saturday’s camp session head coach Craig Dickenson referenced the fans and trying to remain focussed on the task at hand to win some jobs.
And then at the end of the day, one of the classiest coaches had the players turn and applaud the fans as it was a welcome addition to camp for the team as well.
As much as the fans have missed Mosaic and breaking down the roster battles and finding out more about the new faces, the team runs on the passion of the fans.
For me, it was great to be back sitting in the green seats – friendly banter with some colleagues – seeing some good and not so good at camp. It was the most ‘normal’ I’ve felt in 16 months.
