The number of active COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan fell for a fourth straight day Wednesday.
The Ministry of Health reported 18 new infections and 30 recoveries, dropping the active caseload to 363. A recent uptick of new cases had moved active cases up to 415 last Thursday before they started dropping again.
There weren’t any new deaths reported for a third straight day.
The province also said 6,358 doses of COVID vaccine had been administered, comprising 1,255 first doses and 5,103 second shots.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were in the Regina (six), Saskatoon (three), southeast (three), far northwest (two), far northeast (two), northwest (one) and north-central (one) zones.
The seven-day average of new COVID cases was 39, or 3.3 per 100,000 population.
To date, there have been 49,322 cases in the province as well as 48,386 recoveries.
The 12,287 cases of variants of concern detected by screening in the province include 4,829 cases in the Regina area and 2,131 in the Saskatoon region.
There were 54 COVID patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, matching Sunday’s total for the fewest since Nov. 13. The total Wednesday included 45 inpatient cases and nine intensive care cases.
The 1,350 COVID tests processed in Saskatchewan on Tuesday increased the total so far to 938,434.
Vaccination update
The latest shots were given in the Saskatoon (1,677), Regina (1,260), northwest (770), north-central (525), southeast (428), central-east (410), southwest (347), south-central (200), northeast (193), central-west (164), far northwest (50), far northeast (45) and far north-central (six).
The hometowns of 283 recipients are pending.
So far, 1,313,423 doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in Saskatchewan.
The government stressed the importance of getting vaccinated by pointing out that more than 80 per cent of the 2,000 new COVID cases reported in June were unvaccinated people.
“There were zero ICU admissions and zero deaths in fully vaccinated residents,” the government said. “At this time, your risk of contracting COVID-19 is not determined by your age but by your vaccination status.”
Everyone 12 and over in the province is eligible to get vaccinated.
