Environment Canada has lifted tornado warnings and watches for areas of southern Saskatchewan.
However, heat warnings remain across the northern half of the province.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the weather service said it was tracking a severe thunderstorm that could have produced a tornado. The warnings were lifted by 3 p.m. and replaced by severe thunderstorm warnings, which were removed later in the afternoon.
Tornado watches that were in effect for regions around Gull Lake, Leader, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Val Marie, Swift Current, Herbert and Lucky Lake also were removed.
Areas included in the heat warnings issued by Environment Canada are:
- Lloydminster
- Cree Lake
- Fond-du-lac
- Buffalo Narrows
- La Loche
- La Ronge
- Pelican Narrows
- Southend
- Uranium City
- Wollaston Lake
The threshold for these places to be included in heat warnings is when there are daytime highs of 29 C or hotter combined with overnight lows of at least 14 C.
