CJME reporter Lisa Schick is shining a light on the overdose crisis in Saskatchewan in a five-part feature series entitled ‘Hidden Crisis,’ which runs on our stations and websites this week. Schick, along with CKOM reporter Brady Lang, is featuring the stories of those who have lost loved ones to addiction, those who have won their battles, and those fighting for better addictions services. Schick joins Mike to tell us more about the series and the hidden crisis of overdose deaths in Saskatchewan.

10:00 – Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault has put out a guide for reporters, aiming to help combat “disinformation and misinformation,” and promising to detail “concrete action they will take to implement the guiding principles within a year. Guilbeault has previously signaled that he wants the government to have greater control when it comes to policing online content, particularly through Bill C-10. Tom Korski with Blacklock’s Reporter broke the story, and he joins guest host Mike Couros to share the details and explain why so many journalists are concerned by the move.

10:30 – Nearly a third of all Canadian children are overweight or obese, according to Statistics Canada. That’s got Health Canada studying a recent move made in the UK, which bans junk food ads from the Internet and daytime TV. The ban includes foods high in salt, fats, or sugar, which now cannot be advertised before 9:00 p.m. Would this be effective, or just another restriction by governments that wouldn’t help the problem it’s meant to address?
