On a day where recoveries doubled new cases in Saskatchewan, the province also hit the 1.1 million mark for vaccinations.
The Ministry of Health released its latest COVID update Sunday. Included are reports of 48 new cases, 96 new recoveries and no new deaths. This leaves the active caseload at 549, the lowest total its been since Oct. 23, 2020.
There were 22,308 vaccinations given in Saskatchewan in the latest report. This is the 28th straight day that second shots exceeded first shots in Saskatchewan.
A look at the numbers
New cases reported Sunday were located in the Regina (nine), Far North West (six), North Central (six), Far North East (five), Saskatoon (five), Central East (three), North West (two), South East (two), Far North Central (one), Central West (one) and South Central (one) regions.
Hometowns of seven new cases are pending. So far, there have been 48,754 cases reported in the province.
The seven-day average is at 48 or 3.9 per 100,000.
No new variants of concern were detected in Saskatchewan Sunday. The total stands at 12,091.
Saskatchewan’s intensive care units are treating 10 patients with COVID-19, four in Saskatoon, and two in each of the North West, North Central and Regina regions.
The latest recoveries increase has that total at 47,639 so far.
1,295 individuals were tested for COVID-19 Friday, bringing that total to 912,713.
 Vaccination update
The latest vaccination increase has the total for Saskatchewan at 1,115,288. To date, 394,774 in the province have both shots.
The shots reported Saturday were administered in the Saskatoon (6,743), Regina (4,761), central-east (2,141), southeast (1,458), northwest (1,365) north-central (1,324), south-central (1,291), northeast (894), southwest (733), central-west (511), far northeast (270) far northwest (268), and far north-central (10) zones.
The hometowns of 584 recipients are pending.
So far, 80 per cent of Saskatchewan residents over the age of 40 have received their first dose, with 75 per cent of those 30 and up and 71 per cent of those 18 and over also vaccinated with one shot.
