Team Saskatoon won both of its games on opening day Saturday of the FIBA 3×3 World Masters basketball tournament.
The day started with a 15-11 win over Winnipeg before edging Hamilton 14-13 in overtime.
“I didn’t feel we ever found our rhythm, but we were able to make enough scrappy tough plays to find a way to win,” said Steve Sir with Team Saskatoon, after the overtime win.
21st Street and 4th Avenue in downtown Saskatoon has transformed into a half-basketball court with bleachers from SaskTel Centre for fans during the event.
Organizers expect more than 10,000 people to show up over the two-day tournament.
“What a great testament to Saskatoon fans for screaming and yelling on every play,” Sir said. “I really can’t say enough about it.”
Saskatoon takes on Harlem in the Quarterfinals at 1:40 p.m. Sunday with the finals at 4:30 p.m.
