The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added to their depth on special teams and at running back.
Marcus Murphy was announced as the Green and White’s latest signing on Monday.
The 29-year-old was taken in the seventh round (230th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints.
During four seasons in the NFL, Murphy played in 28 games between the Saints and Buffalo Bills, earning 291 yards on the ground. He also spent portions of 2019 and 2020 on the Carolina Panthers’ practice roster.
The DeSoto, Texas-born running back also contributed on special teams, recording 747 yards on 33 kickoff returns as well as 333 yards on 36 punt returns with one touchdown.
Murphy played four seasons with the University of Missouri Tigers and was named the SEC special-teams player of the year in 2014.
In that season, Murphy led the SEC with 1,714 all-purpose yards and was the only player in the FBS that season to score via kickoff return, punt return, rush and reception.
