While the surge and volume of social media can be uplifting, it can also be disheartening.

CFL officials have been getting ripped by football fans, marginal and otherwise, because a contest entrant doesn’t get to take home one million dollars.

Let’s just think about how silly that is for a minute.

The reputation of dedicated people, who officiate football for a big love of the sport, and little money, is getting tarnished by people on the internet because a call didn’t go a shopper’s way.

Musicians, performers, wage earners of all kind, athletes and officials all make mistakes.

The illegal block call, which brought back a touchdown in Thursday’s Argos vs. Bombers game. may have been a bad call. It doesn’t mean that a group of CFL officials are bad at what they do, it means in this instance a bad call was made.

It wasn’t the first bad call that was made in pro sports, it won’t be the last. Categorize the furor over this as disheartening.
