‘Distraught’ man with gun charged with weapons offences

A man who was reported missing after leaving his rural Saskatchewan home with a handgun is now facing several weapons charges.

Preston Croswell, 36, was found safe Tuesday by Melfort RCMP after disappearing while “distraught” Saturday evening.

While he was in possession of a gun, police said at the time they didn’t believe Croswell to be a public danger.

In a Wednesday news release, RCMP said they were charging the man with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a restricted weapon without authorization.

Officers arrested Croswell when he was found, and he will remain in custody until a July 18 court appearance in Melfort.
