The Green Bay Packers’ drama with Aaron Rodgers is going to be the NFL story of the off-season.
Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time and no longer wants to play for Green Bay.
The disrespect to Rodgers started last year when the Packers traded up to draft quarterback Jordan Love. Some will say, “Suck it up, Aaron, you’re the guy they drafted when they still had Brett Favre.”
One difference: Aaron Rodgers was a first-overall-pick calibre quarterback who fell in Green Bay’s lap 16 years ago. Last year, the Packers traded up to draft Love.
Then came the NFC championship game, when they elected to kick a field goal rather than give their MVP quarterback another chance to tie the game from the eight-yard line.
Then there’s the Packers’ draft history of never drafting a receiver in the first round despite a dire need to give Rodgers some better weapons.
So there is a standoff. Rodgers doesn’t want to come back and the general manager says the Packers will not trade him. They say time heals all wounds, but in this case, I’m not so sure it will happen in time for training camps in three months.
