8:30 – A lot more people in Saskatchewan are eligible for the COVID vaccine today, with the age for appointment booking falling to 40 and several groups of high-risk workers becoming eligible. Today also marks the second day of the pharmacy pilot program, with about 10,000 appointments available. But at this stage, vaccine demand greatly exceeds vaccine supply in Saskatchewan, and John is joined by Derek Miller of the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s Emergency Operations Centre to tell us more about the logistics behind vaccine shipments, and when more shots are set to arrive.

12:00 – Scientists at the Global Institute for Water Security have had great success predicting COVID-19 rates in Saskatoon by sampling wastewater, and now they’re testing for three different variants of concern as well. Dr. Markus Brinkmann says they were not expecting their predictions to be so accurate, which he says may be due to Saskatoon’s wastewater treatment system. The program has also expanded to a number of First Nations in Saskatchewan, and other cities across Canada are looking to implement similar testing programs. Brinkmann joins Gormley to give us an update on his work.
